According to the San Diego County, when you build  a second home on a property (cottage or ‘granny flat’), the second property cannot be larger than 30% (with a maximum of 1,200 square foot) of the main house. With this in mind, we built ‘Sugarbush Cottage’ first, exactly 1,200 square foot. That leaves us with the option to build a 4,000 square foot main house on the bottom pad. This pad has a SPECTACULAR view of Pauma Valley, Palomar mountain, and our flowers fields. Below is an insert of what the main house would look like.
